The design of the resident amenities throughout West Central 1 present an expert fusion of these two iconic postcodes. The lobby areas evoke the different characters of each side of the city as well as the local postal heritage with a feature wall of custom illuminated grid-like boxes for residents’ mail, reminiscent of the sorting office’s original ‘pigeon holes’ – balanced by exposed concrete walls, herringbone timber floor, contemporary lighting and swivel stools modelled on those once used by Mount Pleasant sorting office workers. The residents’ cinema evokes the traditional members’ clubs and picture houses of the west with large, indulgent seating, rich fabrics and curtains, while the fitness studio and roof terrace create light, airy spaces finished with exposed stone, metal and woodwork.
